The European Week of Regions and Cities is the largest annual event in Brussels, in the framework of the Cohesion Policy, taking place from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th October 2021. It is jointly organised by the Directorate-General REGIO (European Commission) and the European Committee of the Regions. Under the theme "Together for Recovery", this year's programme focuses on the capacity of the EU and national as well as regional governments to support European citizens and their local communities with practical actions and public policies aimed at investing in a fairer, greener and more digital future for recovery.
On Wednesday 13th October 2021, from 11:30 to 13:00, the workshop "How to harmonise European rail systems in line with the green and digital transition of the EU" will take place, organised under the auspices of the Representation of the European Region Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino together with 10 partner regions. A wide range of decision-makers will attend the workshop from all participating regions, such as Tyrol's Governor Günter Platter. The main objective of the workshop is to contribute to the multi-level discussion on the creation of a fully developed trans-European rail system. In this sense, experiences from past projects as well as future challenges in connecting the EU will be highlighted. Together with the TEN-T policy and beyond, the objective of strengthening the railway sector is considered a key element to achieve a sustainable future for all European regions.
